I'm not with a firm or business. I'm a federal civil service employee at Camp Beauregard who is close to retirement. I have a degree in fine arts (from LSU-BR May 1985) and when I retire I want to paint and teach painting, and I want to be involved in community enhancement in the arts. I'm interested in promoting Alexandria themes related to the architecture, history, and landscape of the local area. I notice the abandoned white building at the corner of Lee and Vance streets. I think it could be an art studio and gallery for art students at nearby schools, such as Bolton and Redwine. It could be a place for students to make art afternoons and weekends, and show their work. Just a thought - to ever make it a reality would require enormous energy, coordination, fund-raising, time, and work. When I retire I am interested in doing something like this. Maybe there is someone out there who has similar ideas.
